Govt to form Communidade Commission

A Communidade Commission would finally be constituted now, as assured by Goa government to the Bombay high court at Goa.
The cabinet yesterday formally decided to constitute the commission, with revenue minister to be its chairman.
Accordingly, revenue minister Francisco D’Souza would be the first chairman of the Commission.
The Commission would go into all kind of irregularities going on in several Communidades of Goa.
“We have also given them powers either to liquidate Communidade or merge a non-functional Communidade into a neighbouring one”, Parrikar told media persons.
The Communidade Commission is also expected to translate the Code of Communidade into English.
Presently, only Portuguese version is available.
The decision has come due to the high court intervention after some Communidade bodies had approached the high court with the demand.
The petition was disposed based on the government assurance to constitute such a commission.
