I-League match postponed due to security
PTI, PANAJI | 09 February 2010 08:41 ISTThe first-round I-League tie between Sporting Clube de Goa and Air India, which was rescheduled for February 14 due to heavy rain, has now been postponed to the next day due to security reasons.
Since the coastal state is celebrating a traditional carnival on February 14, Police has informed the Goa Football Association (GFA) that they would not be able to provide enough security on that day at the Nehru Stadium -- venue of the match.
The GFA then wrote a letter in this regard to the All India Football Federation (AIFF), who decided to put off the match to February 15, GFA Secretary Savio Messais said.
Security at the Nehru Stadium has come under sharp criticism after a Sporting fan sneaked through and attacked referee A Arjunan just outside the dressing room.
