Brahmos launched successfully off Goa
PTI, PANAJI | 22 May 2013 14:14 ISTIndia has successfully test fired BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the Goa coast today.
The missile performed the high-level 'C' manoeuvre in the pre-determined flight path and successfully hit the target.
The missile was launched from the Russian-built warship at 1100 hours, BrahMos Aerospace chief A Sivathanu Pillai said here.
Exactly two months back, the country for the first time had tested the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from underwater.
The submarine-launched version of the missile was "successfully" tested near Visakhapatnam coast.
BrahMos flies at the speed of Mach 2.8 and is a strike weapon.
The Army will be inducting three versions of the multi-role BrahMos.
It has already placed orders worth Rs 9,484 crore, over the next two-three years.
Both Navy and IAF have also ordered BrahMos missiles worth Rs 3,568 crore and Rs 1,295 crore.
