Tillari canal cracks once again, water shortage in North Goa

Sub-standard canal of Tillari water supply developed cracks once again in Maharashtra, which has created water shortage for the three talukas of North Goa.

This time it is in Sasoli village, eight kilometres from the Goa border, on the side of Maharashtra state.

The Tillari dam authorities have already blocked the water supply to try and work out some damage control measures.

Huge tarpaulin has been spread on the whole canal (as seen in the picture) with gunny bags full of sand spread all over so that water does not leak out.

The dam authorities noticed the crack at Sasoli today and immediately stopped the water supply.

Tillari dam is a joint project of Goa and Maharashtra.

It supplies water to the Assnora water treatment plant, which supplies 120 MLD drinking water to the talukas of Bardez, Bicholim and Pernem.

The dam water is also supplied for irrigation purpose to these three talukas.

This is the third consecutive year canals are developing cracks and the water leaks out in a large quantity.

Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal has demanded that the repairs work be taken up immediately in order to restore the water supply.
