Tillari water supply to resume tomorrow, after ‘tarpaulin repairs’
VISHANT VAZE, BICHOLIM | 21 January 2016 22:28 ISTCalling it a repair work, Maharashtra is resuming Tillari water supply to Goa tomorrow, after increasing the number of tarpaulin sheets and number of sand bags.
This reporter visited Sasoli village on Goa-Maharashtra border today to have a personal look at the repair works of the Tillari canal undertaken by the Maharashtra Tillari dam authorities.
After filling the gaps developed in the canal due to cracks, the Tillari authorities had covered it earlier with tarpaulin sheets and gunny bags filled with sand.
What was observed today was more tarpaulin sheets were spread over it and the sand bags were spread in more places in order to try and keep the tarpaulin sheets intact.
With this, the water supply would be resumed tomorrow, which was stopped earlier on 19 January.

Tillari supplies water to the Assnora water treatment plant of 120 MLD, which provides drinking water to Bardez, Bicholim and Pernem talukas.
In addition, the water is also used for irrigation in these three talukas.
This is the third consecutive year the canals coming to Goa are developing cracks.
Tillari is a joint project of Goa and Maharashtra.
