46 escape from Apna Ghar in 3 years
PTI, PANAJI | 26 July 2012 17:04 ISTState-run facility for children, Apna Ghar, has witnessed 46 inmates escaping from the shelter home during the last three years, Goa government said today.
State Women and Child Development Minister Dilip Parulekar told the Assembly that there were 14 cases of escape since 2009 in which 46 inmates have fled.
No disciplinary action has been taken against anyone from the shelter home by the state women and child development department, the minister said.
In a reply on the floor of the House, Parulekar, however, named three persons – Minguel D'Souza, Anand Gaonkar and Manuel Mascarehnas, as being responsible for the escapes. All three are staff of Apna Ghar.
The facility had hit the headlines after it was revealed that local gangsters were allegedly smuggling children from there and using them for robbery and even murder.
