New health centres to start by March 16

The Goa Government has asked Directorate of Health Services (DHS) to start all the non- functional and newly sanctioned sub-health centres by March 16, when budget session of the State Assembly begins.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said 172 sub-health centres are currently functioning in the state, while 64 additional centres have been sanctioned by the Union Government's National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

Rane said all these centres have to be commissioned before the Assembly session (March 16).

"These centres will provide basic facilities to the patients. Each centre will have one attendant and a multipurpose health worker," the Minister said.

The DHS has been asked to align with the local authorities like panchayats and municipal bodies to get the place to start these centres.

Rane said some of the existing centres, which were non-functional will also be put in place before March 16.

64 more health centres in Goa? And that too before the Assembly session? Is it not obvious, that, this is done to placate the Opposition, that something is done?

The available Health Centres are not up to the standard. I was there at Mandur village when he wanted to stengthen the Usgao Health Centre by diluting services from Rural Health Centre, Mandur attached to the GMC & Hospital. People of that village raised Hell along with Wagh of our village and the Health Minister made his presence at the next meeting, denying any such contemplation of such action. In return he promised Rs. 1 crore for augmenting or strengthening the services. A couple of years now and still nothing happened. The poor villagers are waiting.

It is said that India is one of the most debt ridden countries in the world and it is ranked 5th.

What about Goa? How much is the average debt burden on every Goan--from the debt taken by the State Govt. and the debt taken by the Central Govt...???

Younger generation should not be given a heavy debt burden on their heads to repay --as a gift from the present generation.......with their habit of indiscriminate spending of public funds.....
