Goa government has agreed to start Lok Adalat once again to expedite the pending cases in several courts of law.

A demand in this regard was made by opposition leader Pratapsing Rane in the Assembly today.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar assured to set up Lok Adalat once again to settle long pending cases through conciliation.

Parrikar informed the House that altogether 1038 cases are pending since 2007.

It includes 531 cases in the high court, 285 cases in the district courts and 222 cases before the Supreme Court.

He also said it includes around 200 cases where the government has no role to play, but has been made the party for legal purpose.

He plans to talk to the Chief Justice of Bombay high court, the advocate general as well as the law department in this regard.

If they agree, said the chief minister, he would immediately transfer the cases pertaining to land acquisition and service matters of the government to the Lok Adalat.

“I will see that at least half of these cases are disposed of”, he said.
