Each panchayat to get Rs 1 Cr for Infra

Each panchayat of Goa would now get one-time grant of Rs one crore to develop its ‘durable asset’, in next four years.

The cabinet today decided to implement the scheme to create or upgrade its infrastructure.

Panchayat minister Laxmikant Parsekar, at the cabinet briefing, said the panchayat could utilise the fund to create a durable asset like a new building, community hall, market, cemetry, garden or any such project.

“It would be better if the panchayat could also get revenue from the created structure”, said Parsekar.

The scheme would run for the next four years, with funds being released each year.

“The most deserving panchayats would get a priority under the scheme”, he said.

Parsekar, who is also the health minister, informed the media that the cabinet has also decided to create 189 new posts, to accommodate its Class IV employees, which are on contract for over 12 years.

While these posts were created once in the past, the erstwhile Congress government recruited new persons while continuing these 189 on contract.

Parsekar said the decision would provide respite to the old contract workers, who would be regularised in these posts – 75 in the Goa Medical College and 125 in several hospitals and health centres of the Directorate of Health Centre.

The cabinet today also decided to bring a legislation to provide protection to private medical practitioners from their clinical property being destroyed by some patients or their relatives.

A demand in this regard was made by Goa chapter of Indian Medical Association.

Panchayat is like a head of the family. Panchayat should work in the interest of villagers & village. They should not take revenge for not supported them on the election day. Panchayat should forget politics and work for the betterment of villagers & village. Panchayat should deliver their work before time and without asking bribes.
