MGP chief Raut quits, to join NCP at convention today

Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party president Pandurang Raut has resigned from the party. He will join the Nationalist Congress Party today evening.
This is the first time a party president has switched sides in Goa, while keeping the party alive. Otherwise, in the past, party presidents have either abolished the party to join another party or taken the whole party brigade with them to switch over.
NCP is having a major convention at Betalbatim today evening. Sources say Raut will join the party in the presence of NCP national president Sharad Pawar.
Raut had crossed swords with party legislator Sudin Dhavalikar couple of months ago. Sudin's brother Deepak had alleged Raut of misappropriation of party's election funds. Later, former MGP president Shashikala Kakodkar had mediated and had called truce between the two.
Now, with the latest happenings, it is clear that 'all was not well' all these days.
