Is Aires Rodrigues also a Portuguese national? Yes, alleges Salcete-based Tiatrist and Colva panch Calvert Gonsalves by producing several documents as evidence.
Calvert has thus filed complaints in this regard to several authorities from high court to the government to the police, calling him a ‘legal terrorist’ engaged by foreign countries to create insecurity and chaos in Goa. (Click right below to read the full complaint)
Adv Aires, who has been playing whistle blower in raising several social issues, has vehemently denied the charge, while also roping in defence minister Manohar Parrikar in it. (Click right below to read Aires’ version)
Calvert has however produced documents showing that Aires has registered his birth in Portugal in 1987, he is a Portuguese voter and also holds a Portuguese citizen card since 2010, which expired in November 2015.
Aires, as he is widely known in Goa, had recently made public that Indian pop singer Remo Fernandes is a Portuguese national, which Remo had later confirmed.
According to Aires, Calvert, under the guidance of Adv Rajiv Gomes and in collusion with Remo, has hatched a false and fabricated case while he is a proud Indian national.
Calvert has filed a complaint before the registrar of Bombay high court at Goa, district judge of North Goa, president of Goa Children’s court, chief secretary, DGP of Goa police as well as North Goa SP.
A criminal complaint has been filed against Aires alleging fraud, posing threat to the peace and tranquillity and a threat to national security under the Citizenship Act, 1955, Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Section 177, 181, 419 and 420 of IPC of the Indian Penal Code.
WHAT’S CALVERT’S EVIDENCE?
According to Calvert, Aires has registered his birth on 2 November 1987 as Aires Antonio Miranda Rodrigues in the Central Registry of Births, Marriage and Deaths of Lisbon, Portugal as Assento de Nascimento No.1260-A.
According to him, Aires’ second marriage after divorce in 1998 has also been transcribed against the Portuguese birth certificate.
He has attached the copy of the Portuguese Birth Certificate along with the complaint.
Calvert also alleges that Aires has obtained various Portuguese citizen cards like Bilhete de Identidade (Identity Card) and Cartao de Cidadao (Citizen Card) bearing No. 11183778 issued to him on 10 November 2010, which expired on 9 November last year.
He also alleges that Aires is a Portuguese voter while producing evidence through the official website www.recenseamento.mai.gov.pt, where Calvert entered his Cartao de Cidadao No.11183778 and the date of birth as 19600524.
According to Calvert, Aires was a voter even at the Portuguese President’s election held last Sunday with a voter card number 25774 and voting booth as ‘Escola da Ouress’.
In spite of this, alleges Calvert, Aires is enrolled in Goa as a voter from Ribandar and contested election of City Corporation of Panaji in 2011 from Ward No 30 with a symbol of ‘ball.’
In spite of being a Portuguese national, Calvert also alleges that Aires filed affidavits as Indian national before the courts, causing harassment to Indian nationals.
Calvert has also produced in the complaint PAN card of Aires, as Indian national.
PARRIKAR SCOUTING TO HARASS: AIRES
After trying every possible stunt to target him, Aires says his detractors - Calvert, Remo and Rajeev - are now dreaming that he has acquired another nationality.
“I am extremely proud of being born an Indian and will die as one”, reacts Aires, stating that it is not worth reacting to cheap intimidation tactics by a habitual criminal like Calvert, who is currently out on bail.
According to a lawyer-cum-activist, defence minister Manohar Parrikar was rattled that he was exposing various acts of corruption and nepotism of his government, thus the former CM of Goa has also scouted in vain to find a way to harass him.
He also clarifies that he has not renewed his passport since 2004 as the Ribandar Church case was pending against him, in which he now stands acquitted
He has also assured Goans that any attempts to malign his name with such false and misleading tales shall never deter or distract him from his commitment to continue his four decade long battle against corruption, nepotism and injustice.

Those on whom it was inflicted feel the pain specially when the accusations are false & done only to extort. Others will say “Crab mentality” “Forgiveness”. It’s easier said then done. Goans need to know this… For a very long time now, Aires Rodrigues has been Goa’s ace “Legal Terrorist”. Of course he is a lawyer far below average & who has a very low IQ. His knowledge of the law is not much but he makes a noise.
First he lodges his customary complaint. Then he misuses the press by making accusation after accusation, which then flashes on the TV & print media. His octopus like tentacles then move in the direction of his victims pockets wherein he empties the pockets & even sucks the victim blood. Aires thrives on this. I am also going to get evidence of his 'life' very soon for the people of Goa to see.
A few years ago, someone cut his fingers in desperation. A deal was made wherein Aires got something in return. Likewise he targeted many people & always got away. Crows, vultures & other scavengers are in plentiful in Goa. Why do we need Portuguese Crows? Time is up Aires… Goans & Indians know how to defend their land & their people. A Portuguese is not required to teach us that… i challenge Aires for an open public debate on his accessions towards others & those i have made against him..
