Willy was Goa's Chanakya, politicians pay rich tributes

All the political parties of Goa and leading politicians as well as Governor of Goa paid rich tribute to former chief minister Dr Wilfred de Souza, who passed away today morning.
Made indelible mark on Goan history: Governor
Besides being an expert and eminent Surgeon, Dr. Wilfred de Souza, was a towering political leader who occupied the position of Chief Minister of Goa.
He has undoubtedly made an indelible mark on the political and socio-economic cultural history of Goa. I am sure that the people of Goa will remember him forever for the splendid contribution which he made for the development of the State.

Dr Willie was one of the few post-liberation leaders of Goa who shaped Goa's destiny in many a way.
He steered United Goans Party into Indian National Congress which led Goa from regional to national mainstream politics and decimated his arch rivals, the MGP.
He played a stellar role in the struggle for Statehood and official language status for Konkani.
An eminent surgeon Dr Willie wielded his surgical as well as political scalpels with superb dexterity.
Changed Goa’s politics: NCP
Dr. Wilfred De Souza was a founder and associated with the Party for more than 10 years to bring the NCP Party in front on the Goan political scenario. He has played a key role in expanding the roots of NCP Party in all over Goa.
Dr. Wilfred De Souza was a highly charismatic leader and known as “Goa’s Chanakya” due to his strong hold on Goan Politics.
His life was full of struggles. The trouble Dr. Wilfred De Souza took to get himself educated should serve as an inspiration for youngsters in Goa.
Dr. Willy De Souza not only changed the field of medicine in Goa but also changed the politics of Goa due to his shrewd political strategies and political acumen. He changed the entire perception of politics of Goa and played a key role in Goan politics for more than 40 years.
