Madhav Borkar gets B'Day gift as Konkani Academy president
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 June 2015 18:41 ISTMadhav Borkar, a veteran Konkani poet, has been appointed as the president of Goa Konkani Academy.
His appointment came on the occasion of his 61st birthday today.
He succeeds Pundalik Naik, whose term was over in April.
The order was issued by the Direcrorate of Official Language today after a prolonged delay over whom to appoint as the new president.
Along with him, the government has also appointed Jose Lourenco, Kamalakar Mhalshi and Santosh Kerkar as GKA members, as government appointees.
Borkar retired recently as the station director of All India Radio, Panaji, Goa.
After teaching for 12 years, Borkar had joined AIR as a programme officer.
He is the recipient of central Sahitya Academy award in 2001 for his poetry collection called ‘Yaman’.
He has also received translation award of Sahitya Academy ‘Ekshe Ek Kavita’ in 2004.
He also has six more poetry collection titles to his credit – Chanvar, Vatachyo Savllyo, Uzvadacho Rukh, Parjallachem Daar, Avyakrtachi Ganim and Symphony.
Besides writing poetry, Borkar is also known as a critic and quite famous among the young budding writers for guiding them in literary writings.
