Leaders may be weak, but Cong is strong: Luizinho

Goa's Congress Chief Luizinho Faleiro said on Friday that Congress leaders might have become weak, but the party continues to remain strong.

"The Congress is not weak, but its leadership might have become weak. Congress was founded on a strong ideology and if the country has gone ahead today, it is because the party has also been responsible for development of the state and the country," Faleiro said while addressing a press conference.

He said that the Congress should go to the people again and confess their mistakes.

"The Congress has the inherent strength to go back to the people and say sorry to them. We might have done certain mistakes as far as fulfilling certain expectations of the people are concerned," said Faleiro, who is a former All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of North Eastern states.

"Once you commit sins you must go to the river Ganga and take a bath. As a child I was told to do confession. If I have done mistake, I must say I am sorry. I am ready to do so in public," he said.

"We introspected and I am painfully aware that people did not support us," Faleiro said, announcing that the party would have its state level brainstorming session in Goa on December 13.

Responding to a statement by Congress legislator Atanasio Monserratte that he would quit the party to contest Panaji bypolls, Faleiro refused to comment.

"I don't want to react to such statements. We were in the Congress when hardly any MLAs were left with us and yet the Congress returned to power in the state," he said.

"It does not matter that we lost this time. This is part of life in a democracy. If people are not happy with us they will not vote for us. So my role is to rebuild the party," he said.

If Congress would have not looted Goans, today Goans would have been the richest people in India. 35 Thousand Corers is not a small amount. If distributed among all Goans, Goans will be rich. Still there is a chance. Goans should recover these 35 Thousand Corers from Congress and distribute among all Goans.
