BJP's Michael demands ban on Muthalik in Goa

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from coastal belt of Calangute in north Goa, Michael Lobo, on Thursday demanded that the Goa government must ban the controversial Sree Rama Sene (SRS) and its chief Pramod Muthalik in Goa.

Muthalik who arrived in Goa on Wednesday to attend the week-long All India Hindu convention, which ended at Ramnathi in Central Goa on Thursday, had reiterated that his organisation would set up a base in

Goa in September to oppose cow slaughter, “illegal” conversion and pub culture in the State.

Mr. Muthalik had addressed a news conference after arriving in Goa, where he described himself as a “gentleman who is being targeted by the government, politicians and Christian organisations.”

Both, Congress and BJP have opposed SRS during their rule in the State.

The Catholic Association of Goa recently urged government to ban SRS and Mr. Muthalik's entry in Goa apprehending communal disturbance.

Mr. Muthalik said on Wednesday that his outfit will come to Goa in September overcoming opposition from the government and other organisations.

“The SRS is not a Taliban or some terrorist organisation, but is patriotic one and is working for the betterment of the society,” Mr. Muthalik told presspersons.

Meanwhile, Congress Organising General Secretary and Spokesperson Durgadas Kamat on Thursday filed a petition in local Judicial Magistrate First Class court making a plea to direct the city Police to register an FIR against Mr. Muthalik’s alleged “hate speech” at last year’s Hindu convention.
