Yuva Mahotsav on 25-26 Jan in Sattari
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 January 2002 23:34 IST Valpoi MLA Venkatesh alias Bandu Desai has been unanimously elected the Chairman of Organising Committee at the state-level Seventh Goa Yuva Mahotsav, scheduled to be held on 25 and 26 January 2002 in Sattari taluka this year.
The two-day residential type Mahotsav will be jointly organised by Vivekanand Kala Sadarikaran Manch and Konkani Bhasha Mandal at Our Lady of Lourdes Highschool Ground near Valpoi market.
A team of around 200 youth from different villages in Sattari has been working for the last two months to make the prestigious festival of performing art a big success. Around 2000 college students and youth from all over the state are expected to participate in the festival.
The brochure of around 16 different competitions of creative and innovative nature in the field of painting, theatre, folk, music, dance, oratory as well as literary and general knowledge was released at the hands of Ramdas Kanekar, former Chairman of Valpoi Municipal Council. The Mahotsav activists have already distributed the brochures all over the state by personally visiting the colleges and villages with Dholl and Tasso.
While Damodar Mauzo, president of KBM is the ex-officio president of the Mahotsav, Pramod Mhadeshwar, talented theatre personality from Sattari, is the Chief Co-ordinator. Similarly, Prof. Prakash Parienkar, a young writer, has been elected the Secretary.
The elders in Sattari, giving helping hand in generating funds have also blessed the festival of youth. Former MLAs Ashok Porob and Narhari Haldankar, Valpoi Municipal Chairman Kamruddin Sheikh, Agostinho Mascarenhes, Vishwajit Rane, Sadanand Tendulkar, Prakash Gaonkar, Sham Gaonkar and Narayan Gaonkar are its members.
As the festival requires six different pandals and halls to conduct the competitions simultaneously, the work of erecting pandals began on 16 January with local priest breaking the coconut in a traditional manner.
Besides this, the organising committee has also appointed 14 different committees with the following members heading it. Reception committee – Zilu Gaonkar, Programme – Shaba Kurtarkar, Souvenir Editor – Prof. Prakash Vazarikar, Cultural Programmes – Manjula Majik, Pandal – Gurudas Samant, Procession – Vishwasrao Rane, Decoration – Ganesh Shetkar, Exhibitions – Nanda Majik, Transport – Ramesh Parsekar, Accommodation – Ramdas Kanekar, Food – Prashant Kerkar, Water – Gopal Rane, Computer – Vivek Mordekar and Publicity – Sham Gaonkar.
