Women overscore men in Goa's record LS polling of 77%

Goa witnessed record voting of 77 per cent, first time ever in the Lok Sabha election of Goa, perhaps on the lines of Assembly election held two years ago.

North Goa polling was the highest – 79 per cent – while South Goa recorded 75 per cent voting.

The last Lok Sabha election held in 2009 had not crossed 55 per cent polling, with 60 per cent in the North and 51 per cent in the South.

The highest ever voting recorded till date in Goa’s Lok Sabha poll was 61 per cent in 1998.

Surprisingly, the women voters have overscored the men in both the constituencies.

Out of 4.05 lakh voting in the North, 2.05 lakh are women while men are only 1.99 lakh, with a difference of 6226 more women voters.

Similarly, in the South, 2.15 lakh are women voters out of total 4.11 lakh voters while men voters are hardly 1.96 lakh. Almost 18,853 more women voted.

The highest percentage recorded was 94 per cent in Kothambi in Pale Assembly segment of the North and 92 per cent in Kurti of Ponda Assembly segment in the South.

2012 is the Assembly election

The voting figures recorded this time are almost similar to the Assembly election voting held in 2012.

It proves that the Goan voters showed similar enthusiasm this time like it was displayed in the Assembly election that had created a history of change in 2012.
