Windsurfing Nationals in Goa from 22 May

India’s over 50 best windsurfers will compete in the Windsurfing Nationals Championship, once in Goa, this week.

Being a ranking championship, positions obtained here will contribute to selection for international championships.

The five-day event would be held at Cidade de Goa from 22 to 26 May.

Simultaneously, the Goa State Windsurfing Championship will also be held at the same venue.

The championship will be conducted by the Goa Yachting Association, in association with the Board Sailing Association of India and Cidade de Goa.

The National will be conducted in four distinct classes of Boards – RS:X (Olympic and Asian Games Class), Mistral One-Design (Asian Games Class), Techno 293 (International Youth Class) and Raceboard.

The Topper India Grand Prix – Goa Series will be held on the same dates.

Ten sailors from all over the country will vie to win the first ever regatta in this class of boat being held in India.

The fastest growing class of sailing boat in the world, the Topper, is a training boat that can also be sailed by adults and easily transported on the top of a car.

Derrick Menezes, former national windsurfing champion, will be the race officer for the National and the Grand Prix and Sevi Singh from Mumbai will be the head of the Jury.

Sailors will compete in a series of 12 races over four days.

Each sailor gets points according to his position in the race and the sailor with the lowest point aggregate (after discarding his/her two worst scores) is the winner.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 6.30 pm on Sunday 26 May.
