Swimathon on Sun, 24 March at Bambolim
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 15 March 2013 20:17 ISTGrand Hyatt Goa will play host to Swimathon 2013, an open water sea swimming event at Bambolim Beach – one of Goa’s safest bays – on Sunday 24 March 2013 at 8 am.
The event will raise funds for ‘Children’s Rights in Goa' (CRG), an organisation dedicated to the protection of children.
Swimathon 2013 has three different events, for swimmers of differing capabilities.
In the 2-km full Swimathon, swimmers start from the beach, swim out 1 km, round a boat, and back to the beach. In the 1-km Half Swimathon, swimmers start from the shore, swim out 500 metres round a buoy and back.
In the 250-metre Long Short Swim, swimmers swim parallel to the shore, within their depth, and can put their feet down midway if they are tired.
Safety is our prime concern: Entries for the 2k and 1k swims will be limited to 100 swimmers.
The Goa Yachting Association (GYA) will provide rescue boats, ‘Drishti’ will provide trained lifeguards and a Jet Ski, and the Goa Kayaking Club will provide close cover kayak support.
Trained paramedics and a doctor will be on standby. The event is organized and managed by NRB Events.
The Entry forms will be available at select Monginis outlets in Panaji, Margao, Mapusa, Vasco and Ponda, as well as government swimming pools.
Registration can also be done online at http://www.swimathon.in. Entry fees are Rs200 only per event (swimmers who wish to can participate in either the 2k or the 1k, which will run simultaneously and the 250m swim).
