Goa Cong-BJP hesitate to call Karnataka anti-graft wave

Goa politicians react to the Karnataka Assembly election results in a funny manner. Neither the ruling BJP nor the opposition Congress in Goa prefer to call it an ‘anti-corruption wave.’

The reason is simple. The BJP doesn’t want to call its party colleagues in Karnataka corrupt. And the Congress doesn’t want to admit that the Goa trend against corruption got reflected also in Karnataka.

“It was not anti-corruption wave”, says Vishnu Wagh, one of the BJP spokespersons and a legislator.

In fact he terms the humiliating downfall of the ruling BJP in Karnataka as the result of not delivering goods while asking for introspection.

The Congress literally swept the Assembly polls in Karnataka by winning 121 seats out of 223, crossing much ahead of the half mark.

The ruling BJP slipped down to 40 with the Janata Dal (Secular) also getting similar number of seats.

Wagh, the artist-turned-politician, said the script of the election drama is always written by the voter, who decides who is the hero and the villain or the side actor.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar says there is a big difference between the Karnataka victory of his party and Goa defeat last year.

In addition to 10-year consistent opposition posed by the Congress, he says the one-year BJP misrule has contributed in a big way to its defeat in Karnataka.

“The migrants working in Goa went to Karnataka and told the people about the BJP misrule”, claims Shirodkar as well as Ramakant Khalap.

They refuse to buy the argument that anti-corruption wave has hit the country and it would also get reflected in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election due to series of scandals the UPA government is surrounded with.

“On the contrary, this wave would benefit us in Lok Sabha as well as Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Delhi”, claims Shirodkar.

Khalap also tries to defend the view, claiming that the scandals rocked at the centre are in the court are yet to be established.

“The UPA has also said they would not spare anybody found guilty in corruption charges”, states Khalap.

In fact he describes it as a curtain raiser of the series of victories Congress is slated for.

They may say anything they like. After all, they are politicians!

We know that both in Goa as well as in Karnataka, the verdicts are against corruption and if corruption continues, the present governments will also lose power in the next elections.
