CM assures 'joy ride' boy's role into Calvim bus tragedy

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has denied involvement of local Aldona president of the Bharatiya Janata Party into the Calvim bus tragedy that took place on 18 February last year.

This was brought to the notice of the government by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco.

Parrikar in fact also assured to take action against the police officer, who investigated the tragic case of accident, if the real culprits are not booked.

The tragedy of a private bus getting plunged into the Calvim river had killed seven locals, including four school students.

The police have already chargesheeted the case against bus owner Chandrakant Naik and driver Rajesh Chandrakant Naik.

The case is under trial before the JMFC in Mapusa.

On the other hand, Parrikar said the new bridge, built within record time, would be inaugurated possible on 30 May, the Goa Statehood Day.

When Lourenco demanded speedy action against the accused, Parrikar said he cannot intervene into the proceedings of the court.

The government however has acted swiftly, he said, by paying compensation, building the bridge and chargesheeting the case.

“If there are lapses in the probe, I will immediately look into it”, he assured once again.
