Jailmate murders drug accused in Colvale jail
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 26 July 2016 12:43 ISTA shocking incident of a jailmate murdering a criminal – Ashpaq Bengre – took place at Colvale jail today morning.
Police are in the process of arresting Vinayak Korbatkar, who has admitted of having killed Ashpaq, North Goa SP Umesh Gaonkar told goanews.com.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar informed the Assembly that he has ordered a magisterial inquiry and sought a report about the horrific incident from the Mapusa sub-divisional magistrate.
Inspector General of Prisons Elvis Gomes told goanews.com that prima facie it appears to be a fight between two individual jailmates.
Gomes rushed to Colvale jail and has started investigating into the incident.
According to police, the incident took place at 9.15 today morning, near cell number 8.
Gomes said Asphaq was under trial on the charges of drug peddling.
Though a native of Karwar, he was arrested in Punjab and then brought to Goa for a trial in drug peddling case, informed Gomes.
The Government is equally responsible for this murder. Why were these two kept in close proximity of each other? Why was there no security around this area? Or was this something staged to hush up something that someone knew and would spill the beans?
