Goa short of 100 MLD drinking water
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 06 April 2013 12:39 ISTGoa is short of almost 100 MLD of drinking water supply.
The most hit among it is Bardez taluka, which is short of 35.5 MLD water supply.
The requirement of this taluka, the coastal part of which is also hot bed of tourism, is 35.5 MLD of water.
Against the requirement of 119 MLD, the actual supply in this taluka is only 84 MLD.
Bardez gets drinking water mainly from Assnora water treatment plant.
Second in the line is a remote taluka of Quepem, having shortage of 12 MLD.
The requirement of this taluka is hardly 18 MLD, but it gets only 6 MLD of drinking water.
Incidentally, the Selaulim water pipeline passes to Salcete and Mormugao talukas through Quepem.
Mormugao, the taluka of port town Vasco, also gets almost 10 MLD short of its requirement of 68 MLD water.
As per of the official data supplied by PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar, Goa requires 518 MLD of water, but actually gets only 419 MLD.
