The political controversy over government-sponsored Ponda Shigmo was finally resolved by the high court with eight members of ex-MLA Ravi Naik’s Shigmotsav Samiti being accommodated on Ponda MLA Lavu Memledar’s new Shigmotsav committee.
The government-sponsored Shigmo parades in different towns would begin from Ponda today.
Ponda’s ex-MLA Ravi Naik-led Shigmo Samiti was organizing Shigmo parades in Ponda all these years.
With ‘Parivartan’, MGP MLA Mamledar, also supported by his leader and PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar constituted a new Samiti, keeping all members of the Samiti out.
As there was no sign of amicable solution between the political rivals, the Ravi-led Shigmotsav Samiti approached the Bombay high court at Panaji.
The division bench of Justice A P Lawande and Justice U V Bakre has now directed the new Samiti to accommodate eight members of the old Samiti and have the Shigmo together.
The court has also directed to accommodate five members of the old Samiti on the stage at the prize distribution ceremony.
The old Samiti has accordingly proposed five names of the Samiti members, but not Ravi Naik.
Ravi said he never organized Shigmo to get to sit on the stage but to unite the whole community through Shigmo celebrations.
He is happy that the controversy is resolved.
