Kerala Govt to allot land for Sahitya Academy

Kerala government has decided to allot land in Kochi to Konkani Sahitya Academy to construct its own building.

The announcement was made by Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy while inaugurating the Konkani Sahitya Academy for the state.

He also assured that the government will extend full support to bring Konkani culture and literature into limelight.

“It is the duty of the government to support linguistic minority communities like Konkani”, said Chandy.

He also thanked the well-known Konkani literary personalities for contributing to the welfare of Kerala.

Adding to this, Kerala cultural minister K V Joseph made special mention of Ranga Bhat, Vinayak Pandit and Appu Bhat of Kochi in compiling ‘Hortus Indicus Malabaricus’.

The minister also assured amidst applause that the government will honour them with respect and pride.

He also promised that the Cultural Department will extend support to the Academy.

Kochi Mayor Tommy Chemmany, Dominic Presentation MLA and District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth were present on the occasion.
