NIA to take over suspected terrorist case

Goa government will hand over to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) a case related to a suspected terrorist recently arrested by the state police in Verna town, 15 kms away from here, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters today.

There is enough evidence to suspect the involvement of Afzal Khan, a man from Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, in trying to create trouble in the state in the name of religion, he said.

He was found in possession of five cellular phone SIM cards from different states.

Khan was arrested on August 24 by Verna police after he was found to be instigating community community members against the nation.

"He was found inquiring about crowded places in the state and also has some photographs. The suspect has a number of SIM cards with him and also visiting cards. We are not taking any chances. The NIA will be in a better position to investigate it," he said,

He added that there is enough evidence to suspect his involvement in terrorism.

The chief minister stated that it is not clear whether he was associated with any organisation.

Various intelligence agencies including the Intelligence Bureau and Goa police's special branch had interrogated him.
