Codli bridge at Sesa mines collapses with 5 trucks

Five trucks operating for the iron-ore exporter Sesa Goa today plunged into a rivulet at Wagaon village when a bailey bridge caved in, company officials said.
"There are no fatalities although two drivers have sustained minor injuries in the mishap," a statement by Sesa Goa said.
"Unfortunately, the bailey bridge, which is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge, over a nallah in the Wagon village connecting Sesa's Codli mines with the adjoining Pandurang Timblo Industries mines, collapsed," it said.
Five trucks were on the bridge when the incident took place.
The company has deployed teams with equipment to retrieve the trucks from the nallah.
"Sesa Goa has asked the manufacturer to attend to the site immediately to assess possible causes and advise steps to repair the damage," the statement added.
The current bailey bridge in Codli has been in operation since May 2008, it added.
Locals said the bridge collapsed due to corrosion.
Yet again, like those previous accidents, this also will be hushed up under the rug. There will be namesake inquiry, money ( a lot of it) will exchange hands, and the guilty will be free to go back to what they have been doing all along, i.e. play with the lives of people, destroy goan land and habitat, pollute environment and rake in the millions. And of course, the media, which is owned by these very same scoundrels will sleep over it (already much of the goan media is in bed with the miners).
