Karmelin, a Konkani novel written by Damodar Mauzo, bagged yet another Sahitya Academy award, this time for its Gujarati version.

Prof Darshan Dholakia has been awarded the most prestigious Sahitya Academy award for its translation in Gujarati, from Konkani.

The novel, till date, has been translated into 15 Indian languages.

Besides original Konkani novel, for which Mauzo was awarded with the Sahitya Academy award, Karmelin till date has bagged three awards for translation.

Prof Naresh Kawadi got the translation award of Sahitya Academy for its Marathi translation.

Later, last year, Paru Chaula bagged the translation award for its Sindhi version.

The Gujarati translation is presently being studied at Bhooj University at post-graduation level.

Its English version is translated by Vidya Pai and published by Penguin.

In Karmelin, Mauzo weaves a moving tale of sexual exploitation, machinations within the family, caste conflicts in the Christian community, sexist Arab bosses of modern day Kuwait.
