Mediclaim replaced with new insurance scheme

Goa government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company to provide mediclaim scheme for 3.2 lakh families in the state.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the scheme would be in place in next 90 days as the ICICI Lombard officials are busy preparing the data base of the beneficiaries.

"Five people from each family would be eligible for primary and secondary treatment under this scheme extending up to Rs 60,000 a year," Rane said.

He also said  the ceiling could be increased further during review of the scheme.

Goa government has earmarked Rs 15 Crore for this scheme which was announced in the state budget by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.

He said that various hospitals across the state would be roped in where the cardholders would be given free treatment.

"This will be cashless scheme and is extended to any person who has been living in Goa for more than five years," Rane added.

Sanjay Datta, Head Customer Service, ICICI Lombard, said that the scheme is a way of overcoming financial handicaps, improving access to quality medical care and providing financial protection against high medical expenses to the people of Goa.
