Cardiac super specialty at GMC by June

Goa would have its own government-level Cardiac Super Specialty hospital by June.
Health minister Laxmikant Parsekar today told the Assembly that a cardiac surgeon has already been appointed.
The process of appointing other super specialty doctors like consultants and other surgeons is on, he said.
“We are offering best lucrative packages and other facilities to the specialist doctors to come and join our super specialty hospital”, Parsekar said.
Till date, the government was offering a scheme of Mediclaim to treat the patients who could not be treated at the GMC hospital.
While earlier such patients were treated outside Goa, nowadays private hospitals in Goa have also started providing these services with specialized facilities, including surgery.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco pointed out that the government has spent over Rs 50 crore in last three years on Mediclaim.
“We could have built a good super specialty hospital with this money”, he said.
He also alleged that Rs 30 crore out of this has been paid to only three hospitals in Goa – Apollo Victor and Grace Cardiac Centre in Margao and Vrindavan in Mapusa.
He also brought a bag full of death certificates, stating that 2772 people have died in these hospitals in last five years.
The death number, according to Lourenco, is 1087 in Apollo Victor, 1052 in Grace and 653 in Vrindavan.
Parsekar however countered it, stating that all these patients might not have availed Mediclaim facility.
He also said people need not fear since GMC would not provide the best super specialty service for cardiac patients.
He also informed the House that the GMC has successfully conducted five kidney transplants
