Cong requests court to get FIR filed against Muthalik

Goa Congress on Thursday filed a petition with the local court pleading that police be asked to file an FIR against Sri Ram Sene chief for trying to incite communal violence in Goa.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Durgadas Kamat filed the petition before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Panaji, which would be heard on Monday.

"The petition seeks that Panaji police be asked to file an FIR against Pramod Muthalik and be investigated for his inflammatory speeches," Kamat told PTI, after filing the petition through his lawyer, Yemane D Souza.

He also said appropriate action should be taken after investigation, so that to keep intact secular fabric of the state.

The Congress spokesperson had earlier filed a complaint with Panaji with regard to speeches made by Muthalik during last year at the All India Hindu Convention, where he had asked Hindus to carry weapons to protect themselves.

The police had however, refused to file an FIR citing there was no case made out against Muthalik.

Kamat had submitted the links of Muthalik's speeches posted online on Youtube, which were later deleted, after the complaint was filed.

Muthalik, who is currently in Goa to address the ongoing All India Hindu Convention, today said local unit of Sri Ram Sene would be set up here and he would curb pub culture and immoral activities in the state.

"We don't want Muthalik to come and stop the pubs. Our tourism is based on pub activity, which are legally allowed in the state. Hindus in Goa are very much secular and they know what is appropriate for them," Kamat said, adding people of all religions stay together in harmony in Goa.
