Police receive court notice, Tejpal leaves for Goa

Rape accused Tarun Tejpal was saved from the arrest at the Delhi air port as the crime branch of Goa police received the notice of granting him the interim relief while Tejpal reached the air port.
Sources in the police said they were all prepared to arrest Tejpal at the air port since the court notice of the hearing and granting him interim relief had not reached the crime branch office.
“We will now argue the matter opposing the anticipatory bail at 2.30 pm”, said a top official at the police headquarters.
Crime branch DySP Sammy Tavares, who had gone to Delhi to arrest Tejpal, was personally present at the air port.
After arriving at the Delhi air port, Tejpal told the media persons: “I have received the summons and I am going to Goa.”
This is the first public appearance Tejpal made since the junior colleague at Tehelka made charges of sexual assault against him.
However, it is still not clear whether Tejpal would head straight to the crime branch to appear before the police, as assured by him, if the bail application matter is not disposed of today.
He is expected to reach Goa by 4.30 pm while the drive to the Panaji crime branch office is around 45 minutes.
