Atala surrenders, arrested formally

Infamous drug peddler Atala alias Yaniv Banaim today afternoon surrendered to the police. He was then formally arrested.
His statements on spy camera, telecast by local TV channel Prudent, had exposed the police-drug lord nexus.
As a fallout, the state government had dismissed five police personnel, including PI Ashishi Shirodkar, a former in-charge of Anti Narcotic Cell of Goa police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares told PTI this afternoon that Atala was detained by Pernem police. "He is detained and will be handed over to Crime Branch," Tavares said.
The alleged drug dealer had spilled beans on the police drug peddler nexus in the state, which was caught on a hidden camera and telecast by Prudent.
The video was also uploaded on popular website youtube.com, which named police inspector Ashish Shirodkar. Five policemen including Shirodkar was suspended following the release of the tape.
Tavares said that Crime Branch which is investigating the police-drug peddler nexus will be interrogating Atala.
The Israeli, who was earlier booked in drugs case, was deported in 2006 but had managed to come back to Goa. Police had claimed that he was reportedly running a drug trade in the coastal belt flocked by tourists.
It is yet another nexus.... Am 100% sure he has been lured with the 5 star treatment and liberty to go scot free same as David. Well people have started to learn lip readings now..... Let us see what comes out now in the investigation.... frame up, cocked up stories or the truth
