SC clears Parrikar's oath ceremony today, but trust vote on Thu
ndtv.com, new delhi | 14 March 2017 12:34 ISTManohar Parrikar can take oath as the new Chief Minister of Goa today, but he must take a trust vote on Thursday to prove he has a majority, the Supreme Court ruled today, in a big setback for the Congress, which was also criticised for its actions by judges.
The BJP has been invited to form the government in Goa despite winning fewer seats in the election. That decision - taken by Governor Mridula Sinha - has been challenged by the Congress in court. The Congress won 17 seats in the election; the BJP won 13, but secured the support of small regional parties.
The struggle for political power in Goa in March 2017 has grown intense reaching at the doors of Supreme Court also where submission of Congress was not accepted. Just reproducing some parts : “ The months of February-March 2017 suggest some substantial concerns for the country. March looks to be in particular. Some parts …. Goa may also take more care and appropriate strategy. Some political leaders may likely be unwell or may break away”. So the message is unambiguous , though implied.
