Mauvin-Madkaikar set to join BJP, Rane calls them rats
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 December 2016 21:36 ISTSoon after dropping two ministers of the alliance partners, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is inducting two Congress legislators – Mauvin Godinho and Pandurang Madkaikar.
Mauvin announced today that he is quitting Congress on 16th December morning and joining the BJP by evening.
The Dabolim MLA plans to contest now on BJP ticket.
The Dabolim BJP Mandal has welcomed him while they are jointly preparing for the Vijay Sankalp rally scheduled on 19th December.
Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, though undecided over the date, has also confirmed that he is all set to join the BJP.
“I am joining the BJP because this party will come back to power after working for the people’s welfare. Congress has done nothing”, he said.
He is however facing a tough time from the local BJP Mandal.
Siddhesh Naik, the Mandal president and son of union minister Shripad Naik, has said they would not work for Madkaikar if he gets the party ticket.
Siddhesh has been desperately trying to get the BJP ticket.
“How can we work for this corrupt man who had backstabbed the party at one time”, he asked.
Ahead of Madkaikar’s exit, the Congress however has already dissolved the Cumbarjua block committee.
“A new committee would be constituted soon,” said GPCC chief Luizinho Faleiro.
Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane has called both Mauvin and Madkaikar as the rats, who jump out of fear.
“When they are saying we haven’t done anything in the last five years, I want to ask them what they have done in the party or for the party”, he asked.
