Jr Rane threatens to quit Cong, Babush for new party, Mickky goes anti-BJP
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 July 2016 14:54 ISTThe move of Mahagathbandhan has suddenly gained momentum with Congress MLA Vishwajeet Rane threatening to quit the party if there is no grand alliance.
Secondly, Babush Monseratte has also announced his plan to float a new party while fully backing the idea of a grand alliance.
The anti-BJP mobilisation has also received a boost with Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickky Pacheco announcing his ‘final divorce’ with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led ruling coalition.
The idea of grand alliance was originally floated by independent MLA Vijai Sardesai, who has taken initiative of form Goa Forward, a new regional outfit.
Though junior Rane has announced his extreme step, Congress has officially still not accepted the proposal of Mahagathbandhan.
In fact GPCC chief Luizinho Faleiro has dismissed the idea long ago, stating that there is no credible opposition to join hands with.
“Congress cannot win on its own. Grand Alliance is the only viable option to defeat the BJP”, says Vishwajeet Rane.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has already declared its Ekla Chalo Re policy.
“AAP never aligns with anybody when it contests. For us, the BJP as well as the Congress are our political rivals”, Delhi-based Ashutosh of AAP has made it clear.
Though anti-BJP parties have started calling AAP the B Team of the BJP, Rane feels that a wise politician should not ignore the increasing impact of the Delhi experiment, which is gaining grounds in Goa.
Even defence minister Manohar Parrikar, while speaking at the 60th birthday celebration of chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, could not resist from taking cognisance of AAP, obviously with a negative tone.
“Some people are coming to Goa after looting Delhi”, he commented while dismissing the new entrants on the eve of election as monsoon shrubs.
Though it is clear that AAP will not be the part of the Grand Alliance, the Congress may change its position after assessing the ground realities.
Vijai Sardesai has taken a tough position against the Congress, which he headed at one time as its general secretary and used it as a stepping stone in politics through the Youth Congress.
“I hope it won't be too late for the Grand Old Party to decide on the real meaning of #Mahagathbandhan lest some think of #Congxit like #Brexit”, he tweeted, while reacting to Rane’s statement.
While his Goa Forward is moving forward with his intellectual brigade led by its president Prabhakar Timble, the outburst of Babush and Mickky appears to be more personal than political.
While Babush was recently arrested and locked up for 12 days on a charge of raping a minor girl, Mickky was released after serving a jail term for over four months, after stepping down as a minister.
Dropping his earlier plan to take over and revive the United Goans Democratic Party, Babush has now announced that he would float a new regional party, while supporting the Grand Alliance.
Though Mickky has decided to distance himself from the BJP, he however is still sceptical about the Mahagathbandhan.
“We have to see who are part of this Grand Alliance. Accordingly I will decide”, he says.
