AAP for more powers to Gram Sabhas than the Assembly
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 June 2016 20:42 ISTDelhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has assured that his Aam Aadmi Party government will give more powers to the Gram Sabhas at panchayat level than the Assembly and MLAs.
Addressing over 300 youth in Ponda today afternoon, he said AAP is for devolution of powers from centre to the village level.
“Centre should give more powers to the states and state governments should give more powers to the panchayats”, said Kejriwal.
He however made it clear that powers at panchayat level means the Gram Sabha, where people would decide what kind of development should take place in the village.
“If a project is proposed, the villagers would decide whether it should come up or not”, he said.
The Delhi CM however also made it clear that policy decisions would be vested in the hands of the state authorities.
Kejriwal also made it clear that AAP would try and empower the youth as job-givers rather than job-seekers.
“Goan youth are talented and they need to be groomed as entrepreneurs and not mere servants. The tourism industry has proved it beyond doubt”, he said.
The AAP leader also had a meeting with the small hoteliers in Calangute.
He appreciated the manner in which Goan youth are running the tourism industry as small entrepreneurs.
He assured the hoteliers that AAP would decide the tourism policy by consulting the stakeholders and not by hiring experts from outside and abroad.
Kejriwal also clarified that the party would not be run from Delhi like the Congress and the BJP but by involving the local party workers into decision making.
Stating that the manifesto would be prepared only after having Goa Dialogue with all the stakeholders, Kejriwal said AAP considers manifesto as a holy book and not a mere pre-election formality.
“We have done it in Delhi and would also replicate it in Goa”, he said.
