Babush freed on conditional bail, passport impounded
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 18 May 2016 10:55 ISTRape accused Babush Monseratte is granted conditional bail by the Children’s Court, along with two co-accused – the victim’s girl and Rosy Ferrao.
The St Cruz MLA had surrendered to the police on 5th May. Since then, he was in the police custody.
Children’s court Judge Pramod Kamat granted bail to all three of them, on a condition not to leave the state of Goa.
They have to report at Women’s police station for seven days, between 10 am to 12 noon.
The court has also impounded passport of Babush.
He has also been restraianed from leaving the country for two months without permission of the court.
Babush has been released on a surety of Rs one lakh while both the ladies have been bailed out for a surety of Rs 25,000 each.
The political heavyweight has been told to co-operate with the investigation and not to interfere with the probe or the victim girl.
Babush has been accused to buying a minor Nepali girl for Rs 50 lakh, sedating her with drinks and raping her on 8th March.
Since arrest, this is the first time Babush had applied for bail, which was granted today after daylong arguments on Monday.
Public Prosecutor Nita Marathe neither placed strong evidence related to the crime nor pleaded for counter-arguments when lawyers of Babush as well as two ladies tried to convince the court that charges were false.
Happy ending of the episode, Babush is in his Apna ghar and the famous girl is in her Apna ghar.
