Yugank bags TMA Pai Award for a Konkani book on World Cinema
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 02 February 2016 13:07 ISTYugank Naik, a research scholar at Goa University, has bagged a prestigious Dr T M A Pai Foundation Best Konkani Book award for 2014 for his book “Venchik Aantarrashtriya Chalchitram: Niyall Ani Samiksha.”
The award for the book, which analyses selective films acclaimed internationally, carries Rs 25000 in cash, citation and the award.
Yugank, presently pursuing his PhD in International Relations and World Cinema at Centre for Latin American Studies, has reviewed the world cinema by putting America, Europe, Middle-East & Africa, Asia & Asia-Pacific and Latin American Cinema in perspective.
Dr T M A Foundation confers best Konkani Book Award every year and has presented 27 such awards so far.
It includes veteran authors like Ravindra Kelekar, Prakash Padgaonkar, Dr Tanaji Halarnkar, Hema Naik, Pablo Moraes, Melwyn Rodriguez, Dr Bhushan Bhave, Dr Prakash Parienkar etc. Yugank is perhaps the youngest recipient.
This book, prefaced by eminent Goan filmmaker Dharmanand Vernekar, was published by Directorate of Official Language under the scheme of publishing manuscripts of research works on media and science.
Presently also teaching as a visiting faculty at V M Salgaoncar College of Law in Panaji, Yugank has also been awarded the DD Kosambi Junior Research Fellowship by Directorate of Art and Culture of Government of Goa, for the year 2015-2016.
He has also been associated with several research projects like Mapping Mapusa Market and making glossaries for Central Institute of Indian Languages.
Besides academic excellence, the young author is also the General Secretary of Goa Rakhann Manch, Executive Committee member of Konkani Bhasha Mandal and has been associated with the popular events like Goa Yuva Mahotsav and Youth Parliament.
He is the son of veteran Sahitya Academy award winners – Pundalik and Hema Naik.
