Regional party, with Vijai out, announcing 10 new faces on 26 Jan

A new regional party, ‘blessed’ by three independent MLAs led by Vijai Sardesai, would be declared on 26 January with 10 new faces to be announced as the candidates for Assembly 2017 election.

“I am not forming a party. Few like-minded people are in the process of forming it and we would align with them after our term gets over”, Sardesai told goanews.com.

The anti-defection act does not permit any independent MLA to join any political party.

Sardesai, while addressing the media yesterday about the support of three independents to the protesting FTII students, had spoken about forming a regional party.

The other two independents are Rohan Khaunte of Porvorim and Naresh Sawal of Bicholim.

Though not the three MLAs, their cadres would join the new regional outfit, sources close to Sardesai told goanews.com.

Sources also said they would begin with 10 candidates, belonging to all religions and communities, to portray the representative picture of how the party would be.

The idea is taking shape with many people getting disappointed with the Parivartan the ruling BJP assured in 2012 election while the opposition Congress is not at all prepared to gear up as an alternative.

WILL DIG(GY)-VIJAY TALK?

Goa’s Congress observer and national leader Digvijay Singh, who arrived in Goa today, has ruled out the possibility of any alliance, at this stage.

“Right now, we have not thought of any alliance with anybody. We plan to contest all 40 seats”, Singh told the media today.

The idea of grand alliance, after a huge victory for Mahagathbandhan in Bihar election, was floated by Sardesai, appealing to the Congress to join.

Singh however has told the local leadership that alliance cannot be formed with independents, but parties.

“But now he can talk with the new regional party. I still feel that replication of Bihar can defeat the ruling BJP in Goa”, said Sardesai.

Perhaps that is the reason Singh used the words ‘right now’ instead of outrightly rejecting the idea of grand alliance.

He has  told the local Congress leadership to get prepared for the election, which would be perhaps reviewed before taking a final decision regarding the grand alliance in Goa.

Congress should work very hard to win the next elections??? They have left some parts of goa which was not looted by them previously so now they can complete the task. All those illiterates, womanisers, drug lords, rapists congress mla's can come back and have their loot and this is what the minority community wants. Goa is good with churchill, joaquim, ravi, philip neri etc. Goans wants destruction and these people will give it. We brought BJP kicking corrupt congress out. bjp should be kicked out now for doing the same. but getting congress again?? only illiterate goans can think of. shame the scums who support congress and bjp.
