Swaminathan, Bhagat to speak, marathon interview on Off Lang Agitation

 

India’s eminent economist and Maharashtra’s Lokshahir will be the star attractions of this year’s lecture series of Konkani Bhasha Mandal.

A marathon interview, the unique programme started from last year, would unfold this year all the facets of the historic official language agitation of Goa in 1986.

All three programmes, beginning from 24 November, will be held at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao.

Swaminathan S Ankalesari Aiyyar, Indi’s renowned economist and columnist, will deliver a lecture on "From Narasimha Rao to Narendra Modi" on Tuesday, 24 November at 6 pm.

It’s M S Prabhu memorial lecture.

Aiyar is the consulting editor of The Economic Times and writes regularly for the Economic Times and The Times of India. He has two books to his credit: Towards Globalization (1992) and Swaminomics: Escape from the Benevolent Zookeepers (2008).

The second lecture, by Marathi Lokshahir Sambhaji Bhagat would be delivered on “Loksanskruti Aani Kalavant” (People’s Culture and Artist) on 26 November at 5.30 pm.

It’s a Meera Kosambi memorial lecture.

Bhagat is the music composer for Chaitanya Tamhane’s National award-winning feature film ‘Court’, which is India’s official entry for this year’s Oscar awards. He is also a leading personality of street theatre, lyricist and singer.

The interview, in memory of Goan poet Vijayabai Sarmalkar, will be held on Goa’s historic official language agitation.

Leaders of the agitation Pundalik Naik, Luizinho Faleiro, Prashant Naik, Hema Naik, Adv Anaclet Viegas, Nirmala Sawant, N. Shivdas, R B S Komarpant and Prashanti Talpankar will be interviewed by senior journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai.

The marathon interview would begin at 3 pm and could go on for three to four hours.
