'Filmy' bouncers held for mahandling Dr Oscar

Bouncers hired by a Bollywood film unit were arrested by Panaji police today for manhandling Goa’s leading social activist Dr Oscar Rebello while he was crossing the road in Panaji.
The untoward incident has sparked a much wider issue of ex-criminals being hired as bouncers, who harass the general public while authorities turn blind eye towards it.
Dr Rebello was also abused with bad words by five bouncers when he was crossing the road, walking, on the main road outside Inox.
Abbad Tyrewala, director of 'Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa,' was shooting a Hindi film ‘Mango’ in Panaji since 23 June, by closing for vehicular traffic the inside road going to Municipal market from the Inox entrance road.
The incident occurred at around 11.15 am, when Dr Rebello was walking towards his clinic on the main D B Bandodkar Road, running adjacent to River Mandovi.
The bouncers came running and pushed him while the shooting was actually going on far away on the inside lane towards the market and not on the main road.
“I can fight my own battle. But I was furious when I saw the same bouncers pushing a young lady crossing the junction with her small son. She was literally thrown out on the main road, which is full of vehicles”, said Dr Rebello.
While filing the FIR at Panaji police station, Dr Rebello has demanded to know about the new culture of hiring bouncers that is spreading among the wealthy people, who harass the common citizens.
“People involved in all kind of illegal or unethical trade like Casinos, illegal mining etc nowadays move with these bouncers. Are they registered”, asked the social activist.
Satish Sonak, Goa’s another leading social activist, has in fact demanded that permission given for the film shooting be revoked while the government should declare the bouncer culture illegal.
Inquiries revealed that the film unit had unauthorisedly blocked the inside lane, connecting D B Bandodkar Marg to the municipal market, without any permission, from 7 am to 7 pm.
Panaji Mayor Surendra Furtado thus rushed to the spot and immediately stopped the film shoot, though City Corporation of Panaji has permitted them to shoot by charging almost Rs three lakh.
Official records disclosed that the Entertainment Society of Goa had permitted the film shoot with a condition “not to cause nuisance, disturbance or obstruction to the general public” and also without disturbing regular traffic movement.
“The so called bouncers even challenged me to go and complain to chief minister Manohar Parrikar”, said Dr Rebello, but ran away when several prominent citizens rushed to the spot, including Mayor Furtado.
More surprising was that the traffic police were watching the whole tamasha from the shooting location and had even allowed to close the road, which was not permitted.
While Dr Rebello met the media at 5 today evening, several social activists gathered, including Patricia Pinto, corporator Kabir Makhija, Anand Madgaonkar, Dean D’Cruz, Mohandas Lolayekar, Manoj Joshi, Shridhar Kamat, Dilip Prabhudesai, Shrikant Barve, Serafin Cota and others.
Makhija in fact said the film shooting in the capital city is becoming a nuisance since the film units block the roads sometimes without permission while enforcement agencies simply turn blind eye towards it.
The Panaji police have now arrested all the five bouncers, including Girish Subramaniam, Swapnil Redkar and Kishor.
Actors Chandan Roy Sanyal, Monali Thakur and Swara Bhaskar are starring in the movie ‘Mango’.
Just like the security agencies who take contracts for security in organisations are registered, the bouncers should also be registered.
Before that, character and antecedents of the bouncers should be verified by following the set procedure as it is done for government staff when they join their duties on fresh appointment.
Most of the bouncers could be in fact 'anti-social elements' who have been indulging in 'dadagiri' and even extorting money from innocent people.
What were the police on duty doing? Looks like they are getting tips to cooperate with these filmi people.
There should be a ban on filming in Panjim and other major cities because its a nuisance. And the film-makers (bouncers including) think they have bought the entire city with a few lacs. Incidentally, the traffic police, instead of doing their duty, are star-gazing during the shooting that is why they did not protect Dr. Rebello. The average citizens are burdened with problems let not filming add to our woes and, in any case, most film-makers portray Goa in a bad light, anyway
