Higher Secondaries to start after admitting all:CM

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has said no higher secondary school would start until all the students are admitted in Std XI.

He rushed to Navelim in Salcete today afternoon to face the morcha of parents and students, who had gathered outside the school campus.

Parents and students from Navelim were upset as St Rosary Higher Secondary School in Navelim refused admission to the locals.

Parrikar along with local MLA and fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado rushed to the spot as over 500 students and parents had gathered outside the school campus.

School principal Victoria D’Souza told goanews.com that locals were not deprived of admission deliberately but it happened due to on-line admissions started from this year, admitting students on merit.

“The locals waited as usual to come last minute while the admissions were already full”, she said.

Parrikar however assured that the government would start implementing first preference to the neighbouring students from next academic year.

While Parrikar has now assured to admit Navelim students, Principal D’Souza said the school does not have a classroom to run additional division.

The government has decided to permit more divisions for Std XI as 5000 more students passed out SSC examination this year.
