Avertano-Rohan go back with helmets; but not Mickky

 

Perhaps after realising their mistake, labour minister Avertano Furtado and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte brought helmets and rode off with their bikes, but Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco tied his scarf and went back without a helmet.

Perhaps after his reaction was asked for, transport minister Sudin Dhawalikar immediately posted RTO officials on NH 17 highway near the Assembly complex.

But Mickky managed to whisk away.

It could not be known what happened to other two bikes, brought by Glenn Ticlo and Carlos Almeida, both ruling BJP MLAs.

Almost nine MLAs, including minister Furtado, had come to the Assembly session today riding on their fancy Bullet bikes, without wearing helmets.

Other three BJP MLAs and an independent had accompanied them as pillion riders.

When journalists asked them about the helmets, they claimed they kept it at the gate, but in reality they entered the Assembly road from the highway without wearing helmets.

Following this, the police as well as RTO officials intensified their drive on the national highway near the Assembly and fined many bikers travelling without helmets.

It's a sad state of affairs when the lead story of a Goa newspaper tries to get mileage from the fact that certain members of parliament do or do not wear helmets when riding motorcycles on NH17. There are so many other far more important issues to deal with rather than those people risking their lives on the roads. Politicians, like all of us, are expendible, so who cares if they suffer brain damage? Many are brain ... oops! sorry! That's rude!!
