Karnad to open कोंकणी साहित्य संमेलन

 

Dynanpeeth award winner and eminent actor Girish Karnad will open the 21st All India Konkani Sahitya Sammelan on 15 February.

The Konkani literary conference would be held this week in Margao from 15 to 17 February, for three days.

Besides Karnad, who is a Konkani person, people will also have an opportunity to listen to another Konkani literateur, but writing in English, Victor Rangel Rebeiro, at the concluding ceremony on 17 February.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar would also attend the opening ceremony to be held at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao at 4.30 pm.

Noted Konkani writer from Kerala R S Bhaskar will be the president of the Sammelan this year.

Datta Damodar Naik, chariman of the reception committe, said the whole venue has been after Bolantur Krishna Prabhu,  who wrote the first Konkani play in 1912 in Bantwal in Karnataka.

His play - Chandrahas Natak - would also be staged in the conference.

All India Konkani Parishad chairman Aravind Bhatikar said around 1000 delegates are expected to attend the conference, including 200 from the three states outside Goa.

The conference will hold two seminars, three panel discussions and two poetry sessions, besides cultural programmes at night of artists from Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

Another session, to be chaired by novelist Damodar Mauzo,  will  deliberate on ‘Translation of Konkani Literature’. 

The conference will discuss "Konkani Drama in which direction", to be chaired by noted playwright Dr. Prakash Vazrikar.

Sandesh Prabhudesai will moderate a debate on 'Reflection of Social Change in Konkani Literature'.

A session on 'Creative Process of Writing' will be chaired by well-know critic Dr Kiran Budkuley.

The two poetry sessions will be presided over by Ramesh Velluskar and Gwadalup Dias. 

The organisers have named the main stage in Pai Tiatrist Auditorium after Shaba Kudtarkar, promising young playwright, actor and activist from Sattari, who died when he still was in his 30s.   

The press conference was also attended by Parishad working president Gokuldas Prabhu, Tanaji Halarnkar, Konkani Bhasha Mandal president Chetan Acharya, Uday Bhembre, outgoing president of the Sahitya Sammelan Meena Kakodkar, Prashant Naik and Anwesha Singbal.
