Right decision on Lokayukta within ambit: Guv

Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has assured Aam Aadmit Party to work within the ambit of the law and take an appropriate decision on the Lokayukta Amendment bill that was passed by the just concluded Assembly.

The AAP has demanded with the Governor not to give assent to the bill as it dilutes the effectiveness of the Lokayukta act.

While inserting a new section in the original Lokayukta act, chief minister Manohar Parrikar has given authority to the Governor and the chief minister to reject the report against corrupt chief minister or the minister.

Stating that the amendments are brought as per the suggestion made by to-be Lokayukta retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy on the lines of Karnataka Lokayukta act, the bill makes resignation of the corrupt CM or the minister voluntary.

AAP national executive member Dinesh Singh Waghela told media persons that these facts have been brought to the notice of the governor.

They have also demanded to seek clarification from Justice Reddy whether he had actually suggested amending the Lokayukta act in such a manner.

The governor, according to Waghela, told the AAP delegation that he had not received the bill till date, but he has read about the issued through media.

Meanwhile, the AAP is organizing a public meeting against the issue on 10 February.

Adv Prashant Bhushan would be one of the speakers at the meeting, coming down from the national capital.
