Delhi-type gang rape won't happen in Goa, claims CM

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said an incident such as the recent gang-rape in Delhi would not happen in his state, because police there had been asked to show zero tolerance to offences against women.

"Even if a single molestation case is filed and policeman doesn't take action, he has to go home," said Parrikar, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, at the institute's alumni meet here.

Along with Parrikar, fellow IITians Shailesh Gandhi and Sudhindra Kulkarni, and adman Gerson De Cunhaspoke at a panel discussion on the topic "channelising anger".

Parrikar said the people were angry, but "I am not because, if I get angry, then I will burn myself (out). Only getting angry is no solution, we should introspect".

Referring to the Delhi incident, he said if the society was to be blamed then the police were blameworthy too. "Why didn't the policemen not think of the victim as their own sister?" he asked.

The anger should be directed "towards yourself", the BJP leader said, adding that "today our patriotism ends after India wins the cricket match".

cliff its people like you who are encouraging parrikar to make stupid statements like this. What will happen of parrikars claims when 1st molestation will be reported? has not a single molestation, rape or murder taken place in past 9 months? This kind of dramabazi will have serious consequences. Next time a crime happens police will not report it to make cms statement true that there is no crime in this rule. We know what u guys are up to. U guys want to create a totalitarian state like north koria where people worship the maximum leader and opponents are 10 feet down in unmarked graves. That simply cant work here. We goans have already seen it all. The guy was much smarter, educated, efficient and intelligent than parrikar and he ruled not only goa. Ultimately his own countrymen got rid of him. And my generation saw it all first hand. His name was salazar.

Zero tolerance towards offences against women is as it should be.

Well done, CM! So far you are doing very well and from the feedback I get from many of my friends, people appreciate you for your efficiency.

Unfortunately, the mining problem and other problems like Tillary water etc are causing hiccups. Let us hope that these issues will get solved soon.

Can you try to get some standard coaching classes in one of the Institute for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) exams so that many intelligent Goan young men and women can be trained to appear & quality for IAS?

It will go a long way in getting many Goans in this elite group.
