Nadia suicide case to be reinvestigated

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said a re-investigation would be done in the alleged suicide case of Nadia Torraddo in which former tourism minister Fransisco Miccky Pacheco is a key accused.

"There was a political colour" to the probe in the Nadia suicide case, Parrikar told the state legislative assembly.

"We will reassess the case and decide on it...The case would be properly investigated again," he said.

Pacheco had to resign from the state cabinet and was later arrested for his alleged involvement in the death of his close friend Nadia in June 2010.

Nadia had died after allegedly consuming rodenticide at her residence in Loutolim village.

Pacheco was arrested under charges of abetment to suicide. He was behind the bars for 14 days before being released on bail.

Pacheco, who represents Nuvem constituency in the Assembly, today questioned why in some cases of death due to rodenticide consumption, people are arrested for abetment of suicide, while in others they were left scot-free.

Parrikar admitted that there have been different criteria adopted by police in similar cases.
