Inquiry against Club Cabana initiated

Goa government will initiate an enquiry against renowned night club 'Club Cabana' at Arpora which has been allegedly set up in a property licenced for residential purposes.
Independent legislator Vijay Sardesai told the State Legislative Assembly today that two German nationals of Indian origin were given permission by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to use the plot for residential purpose.
Sardesai pointed out that state revenue department in their reply tabled before the House earlier during the Assembly session today has admitted that commercial activity has been going on at the place.
He said the night club has been set up in this property.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar responding to the allegations said the state government will initiate an enquiry into the matter.
"We will give natural justice to the owner of the property. If there are illegalities, then action would be taken against the offenders," he said.
Sardesai had alleged the involvement of officials from state law department, town and country planning department and revenue department to allow the violation.
Parrikar said the matter would also be referred to Central Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to verify whether there is violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in investing the money.
The chief minister made it clear in the House that neither a foreigner nor a foreign national of Indian origin is allowed to purchase a property in India.
While replying to Sardesai's insistence to seal the club, Parrikar assured to conduct quick inquiry and take action accordingly.
