Church, Cong & Konkani Academy welcome MoI decision
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 June 2012 22:40 ISTCongress, Church as well as Goa Konkani Academy have welcomed the decision of chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Medium of Instruction while the youth force has given a mixed reaction.
Fr Zefarino D’Souza, secretary of the Diocesan Society of Education, termed the decision as a temporary solution with some relief.
The Church appeared happy that the BJP-led Parrikar government acknowledged the right of minority schools and also avoided the adverse impact on the student community by allowing them to learn in English medium, with salary grant to their schools.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar has welcomed the decision, stating that the BJP had taken ahead the same line of the Congress on MoI issue.
“With this decision, most of the private primary schools would get grants while running schools in English medium. The government should also give grants to remaining schools and make it cent per cent”, he opined.
Goa Konkani Academy president Pundalik Naik has welcomed the decision while stating that it is in tune with the policy of the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch.
“However, I feel that the schools which shifted their medium from Konkani to English should be punished,” he said.
Rajdeep Naik, one of the youth leaders of the Facebook Group “Digambar Kamat Get Well Soon”, said they also need to guard the government when it has tried to balance the decision very well.
While stating that Church-run schools should be punished for committing a mistake of shifting from Konkani to English, he said this shift would never affect cause of Konkani since these schools were never teaching in Konkani but were fraudulently teaching in English.
Yugank Naik, another youth leader of the same group, described the decision as ‘Manohar Parrikar has passed the MoI examination with ATKT’.
No decision can satisfy all...Good to see that no swords are drawn to fight battles on this issue as it would divert attention from more important issues facing this State and it's people....Let there be efforts to create employment , develop infrastructure, improve quality of life, health care and many more other issues....
